While the UI is reviewed, most data often flows over APIs. Broken object-level authorization, endpoints that return too much data, weak token handling, and missing rate limits are easy to abuse with automation. Web service and API security testing exercises documented or traffic-discovered endpoints with authorized accounts. A new microservice, mobile app, or partner integration creates this need. Without an OpenAPI file or a recorded endpoint list, scope inflates; asset clarity sets test quality.

TARGON does not write API pentest as a copy of a screen test. The technical team treats authentication, the role matrix, and object IDs with pentest practice and reports in the language of the team that owns the service. Vendor tool output is not treated as delivery by itself; validation and business impact are required. Requesting API security testing from TARGON means scoping pentest, vulnerability scanning, and application security with the same counterpart.
